Well, another season is almost over, and the Goulburn River is now flowing at a mere 130 megalitres/day. This means that all of the river is wadeable except for the deeper slower stretches. Weedbeds are therefore exposed in many places, and those that were under feet of water are now close to the surface, with the result that midge hatches are fairly continuous, with Blue Winged Olives making up the mayfly contingent.

Sine the days are getting ever shorter, and the sunlight band narrower, the hatches, and therefore the fishing, is confined to 'office hours' - pretty much 10am to 4pm. Certainly the best of the action is being had during those hours.

Goulburn Griffiths Gnats in #18-20 and Blue Winged Olives in #16-18 are working well, as are Bloodworms and Midge Adults in #16-20. A two-fly rig of a Griffiths Gnat with a midge pupa underneath is working very well, particularly over the flatter, slower glides.
Some fish are full of snails, but most of the Browns are getting less interested in feeding and more interested in sex. A great many fish have begun moving upstream, leaving mostly smaller fish to the feeding.
I am not guiding on the last weekend of the season, choosing rather to enjoy myself fishing for a change. I keep meaning to do this year after year,, and always end up guiding! Not this year - I'm fishing.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my US clients for their business and to wish you all the best for your coming American summer, and wish you all tight lines.
I hope to see you back here in Australia in the coming US winter, so keep in touch and tell all your friends that Australia is still the safest place in the world, and to get on down here to fish!

Good fishing to you all, and tight lines.
PS - sharpen those hooks!
