The salmon have been hanging around a lot lately, instead of their usual 'in & out' antics, so the swoffing has been great, particularly on Woolamai beach, Andersons Inlet, and the entrance at Inverloch.

Typically our clients have been engaging up to 200 fish in a day, with some 40 being the average boated. Of these, the average size is around 1.5kgs, mostly caught on either Blue & White Deceivers or white Surf Candy.
We have had some great sport with Estuary Perch (EPs), landing some real beauts on soft plastic lures and small Crazy Charlies (pearl). I have been trying out some new patterns, with the clear winner being a fly made from an Olive chenille body, chrome dumbell eyes, chartreuse tail & wing, tied Clouser-style in #2. This fly seems to attract EPs when it seems there are none there, just drags 'em up out of the snags!
One morning at Lakes Entrance, we waded the south shore of Fraser Island, and saw literally dozens of big EPs, and went through a dozen flies before settling on the Green Meany (above) to take 12 fish in an hour. Great fishing.

Winter is closing in on us, and with the days getting shorter, I have to be really on the ball with my timing otherwise we miss out due to lack of light. So far so good, but with more frequent rain putting more freshwater into the inlets, the fish are getting fernicketty. Time to look out for those lunker Flathead that are prowling around in the dark - which means night fly fishing. But that's stuff for the next report ..... !

Tight lines.

Next trip is down to Port Albert to hunt down some serious Flathead in shallow water ......

Remember, fish conservatively today for future good fishing.
