CAPE YORK
I am due to start guiding at Cape York next month so by the next newsletter I will be able to give you an update on the fishing upthere first hand.Talking to some contacts I have there the Pelagic scene is going off its head up there at present.
Even though it has been fairly wet up there(Bamaga) these couple of mates of mine have been enjoying some excellent fishing.Their words are "we can handle the rain if the fishing is good"-typical fishaholics like myself I guess.

Wet Season
It seems the wet season has been and gone but there may be follow up rains during April as this quite often happens.
Hinchinbrook had a steady wet however not a large one.All the rivers and creeks have run, some more than others due to patchy rains and not a general rainfall coverage. The Herbert river which is the main feeder into the area rose approximately two metres and is now cleaning upand falling.
Cape York has had a fair wet with around 75 inches of rain falling for the December to March period which is quite normal.
Both locations look like having a pretty fair year if some recent catches are indicative of the fishing we are to look forward to.
Our best day at Hinchinbrook in the last month was 39 Barramundi and 12 Jacks for the day.Not bad when 20 Barra are over legal length for two anglers.

Kind Regards
Steve Jeston.
