2003 - 2004 Season
Tasmania's Trout season opened on Sat 2nd August 2003.
There have been very good Spring rains so far and we had a great spawning run this Winter.
Water levels are up on all waters and we are getting some good results from the East Coast waters.
Lake Leake has fished exceptionally well during the worst of our Spring days with big fat Brown Trout to 3.5lbs taken on days when the weather has been to rough to get to other waters.
On the better days we have been taking great fish from Tooms Lake.
November.
HOT SPOT of the month.
Tooms Lake is firing on the dry fly with the mayfly hatch under way. Yesterday we took 4 big
mayfly feeders with one fish at 6lbs. This is the time of year when we are able to get the novice fly fisher onto big fish with ease and so far all of our first day fly fishing clients have been able to take at least one big fish of 3 to 3.5 lbs with plenty of smaller fish of 1.5 to 2lbs available.
Other waters:
Penstock is also producing on calm days with big hatches of Stone fly bringing the fish up on top.
Arthurs and the most other Central Highland waters are still slow and will not produce good dry fly action until some time in Dec.
The Southern rivers have not produced good whitebait runs so far so we are still looking forward to this action in the following month.
Salt water action is slow at the moment except for the Crayfish season which opened last week on the first of Nov.
